The Country Dance * New York Gotham Assembly is an annual mid-year dance celebration. The program is made up of dances selected by vote of the dancing members of CD*NY. The Mistress of Ceremonies, translating the public's choices into a delectable program, will be Beverly Francis; and Robin Russell and Tom Phillips will provide the music.

Contra dancers arriving on September 8 and at subsequent dances will need to SIGN IN at the desk downstairs before proceeding to the gym. It shouldn't be too bad--they're not asking for ID or patting people down--but you might want to arrive earlier to allow for a backup. And smile!

Despite the heat and humidity, the first English dance of the 2012-13 season was a terrific party, courtesy of Jeff Stevens and Elizabeth Parry, whose joint birthdays and wedding anniversary we were celebrating. Three long lines of dancers filled the hall from top to bottom, The Dressed Ship provided great music, and Beverly Francis led us brilliantly through many of Jeff's and Elizabeth's favorites. Here is the birthday pair and many of their friends listening to the clever lyrics of a song…Continue

Hey I've been coming to Contra for a few months now and I'd really like to go to the Brattleboro Dawn Dance. I live here in New York, in Brooklyn, but I'm willing to meet up at another location if needed. Is there any possibility I could hitch a ride with someone to and/or from the dance? Glad to help pay for gas/car rental. Thanks! Please feel free to call me at 347-752-7044.

CD*NY has received the following casting call for an independent film which will feature contra dancing. Take a look and, if interested, follow the directions to get yourselves in the film.
Hickory Pictures is now casting contra dancers for an independent, family-friendly period drama that is set to shoot upstate later this fall. We need dancers of all ages! If you are an experienced contra dancer or clogger and are interested in showcasing your skills,…
I'm CD*NY's liaison to the Chinatown YMCA, and I've learned that because of intense financial pressure the Y may soon have to increase our rent beyond what we can afford. We're okay until the end of this season (January 26) but it's time to start looking again for a great place to have our contra dances. Please help by giving us information about halls you are aware of. Reminders of halls you suggested before are welcome - each search is different so an old idea may look good in new light.…Continue
Effective immediately, CD*NY will no longer serve water at our dances. By implementing this policy we will be saving a large quantity of plastic trash from entering the waste stream.
We encourage dancers to bring their own water bottles and to fill them at the fountains directly outside the dance hall. There are also vending machines on the same floor and a Whole Foods next door should you want to purchase a beverage before or during the dance.
