Gender Free Contra Dances in New York City
Come dance in air-conditioned comfort with CDNY's neighbors across the street from The Church of the Village. We have three summer dances lined up in 2008: June 13, Caller - Dean Allemang, Band - Off N' Ensemble; July 11, Caller - Bob Isaacs, Band - Hog Wild with Jody Kruskal, Tom Phillips, and Marnen Laibow-Koser; August 8, Caller – Ted Crane, Band – Subset of Rum & Onions. All dances: 7:30pm - 10:30pm. Admission: $12. Our dances are open to everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, dance experience, or number of left feet. Please be open to same-gender dancing, opposite-gender dancing and reversed role dancing. Refreshment contributions or a jug of water are appreciated! The LGBT Center, 208 West 13th Street, Room 301. English Country Dance Lessons at the 92nd Street Y
If you're ready to change your English country dancing for the better this summer--or try it for the first time--then run, skip, and skip change your way to the 92Y for "English Country Dancing from the Ground Up."
CD*NY teacher Paul Ross will devote six consecutive Thursday evenings, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM, starting July 10, to teaching the basics of English country dancing in a patient, focused learning environment, removed from the pressures of a typical Tuesday.
Topics will include the dozen or more types of stepping in English country dancing, proper hand turns and technique, posture and carriage, and the secret lives of gypsies, turn singles, and other classic figures.

Country Dance and Song Society Summer Programs
Our programs offer a wonderful chance to experience traditional English and/or American dance and music in beautiful outdoors settings. Each program has a unique focus and each offers a different mix of daily dance and music classes, singing and special workshops. Participants can help create a sense of community by bringing ideas for events, games or parties. There is also plenty of time to swim, canoe and relax with new friends and old. The Long Island Traditional Music Association is a broad community of musicians, dancers, singers, and listeners who gather to enjoy and perpetuate traditional music, song and dance on Long Island through education and participation.

Pinewoods is a traditional dance and music camp whose user groups provide weekend and weeklong sessions, mostly for adults, with some family sessions. It is located between two ponds near Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Folk Project and Swingin' Tern Dance
Swingin' Tern presents Contra and Square Dancing to live music in Chatham the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. Beginners are welcome at the dance and are encouraged to come to the beginner's workshop preceding the dance proper. No experience is necessary and one may come alone or with a partner.
Location: The Ogden Memorial Church on Main Street (Route 124) in Chatham, northern NJ. The church is easily accessible by New Jersey Transit from Penn Station to Chatham, followed by a short two block walk.
Scottish Country Dancing
Scottish Country Dances are exciting jigs and reels and elegant strathspeys — the historic social dances of Scotland. For centuries they were enjoyed both at Court and in the countryside, and today they are danced in hundreds of RSCDS groups throughout the world. Performed in sets of 3 or 4 couples, these dances are truly "social."

Lincoln Center - MidSummer Night Swing

From swing to salsa, dance instructors are on hand to teach a few smooth moves, while many people come by just to listen to the infectious beats.
Wave Hill
Every Thursday evening in July, Wave Hill presents Barefoot Dancing on the Grass, a program of folk dancing from different countries. The event starts at 7:00 pm with instruction, and the music and dance continues until 8:30 pm. The dances are held at Van Cortlandt House Museum in Van Cortlandt Park, the Bronx.
