 Summer Activities

Summer Dancing

"It's too darn hot" is sung by Paul and the Boys in Kiss Me, Kate. They could also be singing about CD*NY's dance space at the Church of the Village, because it is not air-conditioned.

So, CD*NY's dances take the Summer off.

There are other dance venues you can enjoy during the Summer.

We'll see you for the following dances that will start the Fall season:
  • Tuesday, September 5, caller and musicians to be announced
  • Saturday September 9, Linda Leslie calling with music by Party of Three

Save the date for the CD*NY Summer Picnic

This hasn't been done for ten years!

Our dances may be on hiatus over the summer, but we can still come together as a community. The picnic will be on July 16th from 2 - 5 PM in Washington Square Park. We'll have an opportunity to enjoy some potluck food, good company and maybe even some tunes if you want to bring an instrument!

Everyone should bring food based on the timing of their birthday:
  • Spring birthdays bring something sweet
  • Summer birthdays bring something savory
  • Fall birthdays bring fruits or veggies
  • Winter birthdays bring drinks (non-alcoholic!!)

More details to come as the date gets closer. We hope you'll save the date now so we can see you then!

  • CD*NY Membership for 2017-18

CDNY members and regular dancers, membership is now open for 2017-18! Join/renew your membership to save money at our events and to support our dance community. Renewing before the start of the new season enables us to get membership envelopes faster. And if you are a regular dancer who has been considering joining for a little while, now is the best time to do so because you'll get in at the member rate for the rest of this year too!

You can visit the CD*NY website membership page to find out about membership benefits. While you're there, you can register and pay online using PayPal, or download the membership form (PDF) and mail it or bring it to a dance.

Double Your Gift - Third Musician Fund Matching Challenge

The budget for English Dance musicians provides for only two musicians at each dance. You may have noticed that, lately, we have three musicians playing. That is possible because of the Third Musician Fund.

A generous anonymous CD*NY member has offered to continue last year's challenge grant. Contributions to the Third Musician Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to a recently increased maximum of $1,200. The challenge grant matching has started , so make a donation now to get us off to a fast start for 2017!

You can contribute to the fund by donating when you pay your admission at English dances or by mailing a check to: PO Box 878, Village Station, New York, NY 10014. Please make the check out to "CDNY" and write "Third Musician Fund" on the memo line of your check.

Your contributions to the Third Musician Fund, and any other contributions to Country Dance * New York, a non-profit 501c3 organization, are tax deductible.

You don't have to be an English Dancer to contribute.

Shoe Requirement - We Need to Show Our Hosts That We're Considerate of Their Facilities

To ensure that the floor is preserved for our dancers and for other users, please bring clean soft-soled shoes with you to change into at the dances. They should be shoes that have never been worn outside. If you can't set aside a pair of shoes just for dancing, clean the soles of your shoes thoroughly to remove all grit and dirt. High-heeled shoes are not allowed.
