About Us

Country Dance*New York (CD*NY) is an all-volunteer nonprofit [501(c)(3)] group which shares with the community the love we have for contra dancing and English country dancing. We sponsor two dances a week most weeks between September and early June.

To keep the dances running, many members of our dance community contribute their time as volunteers and contribute financially through their memberships and donations.

Reflecting our NYC roots, we are a diverse group of dancers — from old-timers who have been dancing for decades to young people who have just discovered traditional American and English dancing; men and women; straight and gay, people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and occupations. On the dance floor we become one community through the joy of dancing.

We are an affiliate of the Country Dance and Song Society Inc. (www.cdss.org), and we and our predecessors have been putting on dances in NYC for 100 years.
